2009 Best SF & Fantasy, according to Locus

February 2nd, 2010 (01:04 pm)

The list is here, and there are a few titles I definitely will read before they publish the next one.

* Under the Dome, Stephen King - As soon as it appears in pocket. All my other King is in pocket, and they have to stay together =)
* Gardens of the Sun, Paul McAuley - The first part in this series was a marvel. Lots of nano-biochem, I like that
* The Adamantine Palace, Stephen Deas - Well, I have it in the book shelf at home...
* Transition, Iain M. Banks - Though I may have to start with something else by him.
* The Windup Girl, Paolo Bacigalupi - Unless I'm getting two books mixed up, this is the one with the lovely cover.

Wot I have already read from this list:
* The City & the City, China Miéville - Spectacular
* Unseen Academicals, Terry Pratchett - Great!
* Leviathan, Scott Westerfeld - Really nice YA, historical AU with mechas just before WWI
* The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, John Joseph Adams, ed. - So-so collection, but a few of the stories were really good. Most are in other anthologies too

Besttjusaren och gnöt om fula boknamn

January 20th, 2010 (12:04 pm)
current location: Work

Almost a new years promise for 2010

January 13th, 2010 (10:21 am)
current location: In bed, sniffling
Hearing: Higurashi no naku koro ni OST - Dear you

I have this huge, impressive and/or guilt-inducing stack of books to read now. Have promised myself to not buy anything but recent parts of the series I follow until I'm at least halfway through it. Also decided that I should take a leaf from the page of other, more organized bloggers and jot down some thoughts about the books I read this year. We'll see how that goes...

Anyway, so far I've mostly been watching tv series; a most unusual state for me. But the Granada Sherlock Holmes series is very good (yes, of course I watched the new movie too. Pretty, but lacking depth and feeling. Their Watson was nice though). Also, I've started on Jeeves and Wooster, borrowed the box from Mac. She all the good stuff, or more properly put, she has all the stuff you can imagine!

Anyway, I am home with a cold right now, so there is plenty of time to read. I finished Rob Thurman's Roadkill, part five of an urban fantasy series. Not released yet, there came a heap of preview books this Monday.

Review here, no direct spoilers I hope. )

Oh, and the author has a Livejournal - [profile] robgoodfella. Neat. Book is to be released in March.

(wow, this got long. don't expect such a detailed review every time)

I've been to MUCC yesterday and today and it owned in complete awesomeness. As encore they played Saishuu Ressha (Sthlm) and Ryusei (Gbg) and then the new song. As main part they played - a whole bunch of awesome songs that I can't remember the name of because I suck. Oh, except FUZZ which is so incredibly fantastic to hear live. And on CD too, come to think of it.

They did actually not play Utagoe, but we sang it in the car home in a slightly delirious expression of joy ^^

So, all in all, I'm very happy that I took the trip down to Gothenburg to see them again.

Maaan, I should've written something more about Miyavi before, because he was also very cool and sexy. But MUCC is so much better it's not even possible to compare them musically, so enough to say that both concerts were fucking cool in very different ways

Vernissage: Les Nouveaux Noirs

August 23rd, 2009 (01:07 pm)

This has been an incredibly intense week at the office. I've stayed on for longer than usual and it still doesn't feel as if I'm catching up much -_- But I'll add in one extra day on Monday and hope no more of the paperwork turns out to be a lot more time-consuming and exhausting than I thought

...for everyone I owe mails/phonecalls, I'll get back to you soon. Just need an hour to relax with the latest FMA and breath a little x_X

Aj. Typ överallt

August 15th, 2009 (01:33 pm)

Helped a friend with the moving yesterday, and though I sweated like a pig I didn't think I'd exhausted myself that badly... until I woke up this morning. ahaha, I should work out more (like, at all)

The traintrip out to Märsta sped by quickly with my new baby laptop to entertain me ^_^ I think I'll totally sign up for NaNo this year, though it may not be with a story I want to post online... Anyway, it's awesome to sit on the train and get something done!

but when I got there and looked around for my friend, an elderly man nearly punched me in the shoulder :( He muttered something about how I "didn't even see other people" but, dude, I'm standing looking around for my friend in the middle of a pedestrian street and like 30 persons manage to pass me without any trouble whatsoever... I dunno, some people are freaks. Luckily, I was so happy just then that I just blinked at him in confusion and then got back to listening to my tomato song and (after a while) found my friend

There are rumours about a new Vampire Chronicles movie. Despite everything, I am slightly excited...

Also, ze drumroll, we in the Stockholm Science-fiction bookstore will have a Japanese Theme Day!

There'll be cosplay, amigurumi-workshop and quiz - and I'm one of those arranging it =D
Drop by (in costume, if you'd like. there'll be prizes *bribe bribe*), watch the show and say hi to me!
